A Benchmark of Supercars

Now, before I kick-off this very first official blog of mine, I want to let everyone know that I'm not a rip-off or a joke when it comes to cars. Now, of course I can never be compared to Jeremy Clarkson, yet. But I studied more than enough to know my stuffs when it comes to cars, from supercars to even down to an ordinary car. I've been following Top Gear, 5th Gear, Autocars, Evo Magazines, Supercars.net, even Wikipedia as well, and sometimes experience the car in-person as well. Therefore, I am confident to say that I do know what I am talking about :-)

I thought it would be best by telling the world about a car I simply adore.

A Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG that wanted to be better. Yes, It's RWD, it's a 5 speed automatic that produces 476HP, it does 0-60MPH in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155MPH (250KPH). But as good as it already is, this is not the car I'm talking about. Mercedes thought it could be better, and thats when they handed it over to McLaren.

James Bond's Evil Villian's Lair

They took the SL55 to England where their factory is located in, the same place where they develop the McLaren Formula 1. What amazes me about the McLaren Technology Centre is that the design of the building's exterior and interior are specially focused to motivate the McLaren employees. As an architecture student, thats simply amazing. All the Staffs wear a special made Hugo Boss uniform which are made from a special material that would not produce any scratches on the car they are working on. Its a good thing to know for the amount of money your paying for your car.

As a result was the birth of the legendary Mercedes McLaren SLR.

Fastest Automatic Car in the World

They were able to take the V8 of the SL55 and extract an additional 150HP. Therefore, the SLR's V8 now produce an astonishing 626HP. The SLR was desgined to behave like a Formula 1 race car when it's in an accident. The entire body of the car is made from Carbon Fibre, which makes the car very light and very strong. As a result, it weighs in at 1768KG, thats 52KG lighter than the SL55. The SLR is RWD and it's a 5 speed automatic as well, similar to the SL55. It does 0-60MPH in 3.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 207MPH (334KPH).The sound of the engine of the SLR is something truly different, which sounds more or less like a Spitfire Aircraft.

How Fast Your Sick Comes Out

The acceleration of the SLR is nothing compared to the way it losses its speed. Thanks to its Carbon Ceramic Brakes, (also which the SLR are one of the first that uses it) that will glow when you use it, and will catch on fire if you use it too much. As a result, its able to stop from 120MPH to a complete stop in less than 5 seconds. A perfect way make all of your intestines that was pushed back of your body when the car accelrates and shot right back again when you step on the brakes.

The Price for All That Umph

The Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG, with a fold away roof, costs US$145,000. The SLR thou, with a solid roof, costs US$503,000. But the price is probably the only downside I could think of from the SLR. There are many supercars out there today that could do 200MPH easily, but only a handful of them do not have the feeling that the car would begin to come apart or blow up when it does that kind of speed or when the car is really pushed to its very limit. The SLR does not have that problem at all. Its so well built and developed that the car just feels stable and could do those kinds of speed easily.

How It Will Win Your Heart

Lastly, the main reason why I simple adore this car, is because that most car companies claim that their supercars are as good as on the road as they are on the race tracks. But we all know that thats a complete lie. Those cars are only good if you wish your spline to be crushed. The SLR however, is meant to be used as an everyday car. It is incredibly comfortable as a typical Mercedes, it has air-conditioning, leather seats, a stereo, electric seats, an automatic gearbox and even a proper-sized trunk that you can actually use (very rare and exclusive in the supercar world).

Whereas, most supercars would need to go through The Biggest Loser Program in order to do high speeds and do what ordinary cars can never do. Being stripped down completely, leaving only the very basic that a driver needs.

The McLaren Mercedes SLR is simply a benchmark of the supercar world. Its a car thats worth owning.
